If you're in Cherrygrove City now [as he assumes from how long it's been since Dorumon arrived], I think the closest gym to you is in Violet City. I've never been there though, so I don't know what it's like, but the other gyms that I've been to were really hard for the Pokémon with me to beat. The Pokémon who's with you will need to train and get stronger if he wants to win.
